Georgia "Georgie" Louise Fuchs

I was born on May 11,1926 to Frank and Aloise Hamernik in Flom, MN. I grew up on the family farm and was the 4th child in our family of 10 kids. I attended country school in Walworth Township until 8th Grade. I was needed to work on the farm until the age of 1, when I left to stay in Fargo to care for a doctor's family at their home.

While in Fargo, I attended a dance and met the love of my life, Carl Fuchs of Felton, MN. We dated for 6 months and were married in 1945 at the Walworth Baptist Church in Flom. We lived and farmed near Felton while raising our 5 children, Wally, Virginia, Ione, Nancy and Lyle.

In 1962 we moved our family to Lake Park, MN. Both Carl and I then began working at Swifts, a turkey plant in Detroit Lakes, MN until our retirement. Carl and I enjoyed dancing, playing games, especially playing cards and gardening. I enjoyed canning many, many jars of dill pickles and sharing them. I also enjoyed sewing and making quilts and baby blankets for family and friends. I was an active member of Lake Park Lutheran Church where I served on several boards and served on the alter guild. My favorite part of being involved in the church was being known as the baby quilt lady as for many years I sewed baby quilts and gave them to all the babies baptized at our church.

In 2007 Carl and I moved to Fertile to be closer to family. Carl passed away in 2009. We enjoyed being able to see our children and grandchildren more often. I have been blessed with 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
